10/7/2023 0 Comments How to fix the mouse in dead spaceThe file responsible for storing your key mappings is controls.rmp located under “C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Electronic Arts\Dead Space”, so I began examing this file, how it changed depending what the keys were set to and after an hour or two of playing about I discovered not only the offsets storing the Up/Down/Left/Right key mappings but also the correct values for the arrow keys – AND THEY WORK. It’s a good workaround but it’s simply not ideal. However, not being one to give up at the first hurdle Google lead me this page which gives instructions for playing Dead Space with arrow keys using GlovePIE to remap the keys as you press them. This can be done on the Settings tab (I choose Ctrl + Shift + B).Having received Dead Space for my Birthday I was disappointed to find that there was no way to use the arrow keys to play especially since I’m left handed and that is far more natural to me. Probably, you’ll want to assign a key combination too to switch between the default FoV and your custom FoV. Now, each time you play the game, you need to run WideScreenFixer as well. Now click Save settings and then Close Window. Once there, choose the appropriate version of the game and put the FOV-slider to the desired value. On the Main tab, now select Dead Space and click on the grey icon next to it. No install is required, but you need to run it as administrator AFTER launching the game (so ALT+Tab for once). Luckily there’s a tool, called WideScreenFixer, which also fixes the second problem. The Vsync issue is easy to fix: just disable Vsync in the game, and enable Vsync on your GPU driver. Also, the game has a very annoying, unconfigurable Field of View (FoV). By design, there is a Vsync issue in the PC-port of game which makes it almost impossible to steer the mouse. Yes I DID it, I completed Dead Space! It’s such a great space horror game, but you can expect some difficulties when launching it for the first time.
